Accountability is a word we are all familiar with, however does it come to mind when it counts the most? I am going to guess probably not for many of you and including myself. According to Wikipedia’s definition accountability is answer-ability. Makes sense, but to whom? Many of us are accountable to our families, jobs, and etc. This because they present themselves as needs vs wants; examples would be; make sure the kids get dinner, so they don’t starve and doing what our boss tells us, so we don’t lose our job. Now, does this happen all the time when it comes to our wants? Myself and I am sure many of you want your MLM business to be the best it can be and provide you with all the dream come true moments that we know it can! The problem for many of us is that it is a want, so we don’t subconsciously mandate ourselves to make it happen. Therefor we bounce back and forth over the line from treating our businesses like a business vs someday’s treating it like a hobby. I think some of this stems from the low capital injection/ start-up fee associated with most of our ventures. This spiral’s into our subconscious and tells it that we don’t have much to lose, because we have sent that amount of money on worse things and many people are already in the RED. Making it easy to discount the value of our actions. However, this is costing us our DREAMS and the reasons we joined the firms that we did! A top networker in the industry told me…when asked how did you make it happen…he replied. “I had to make it happen and if you don’t have to make it happen pretend you have to make it happen!” I think this quote says it all, because he turned the want to a need and our subconscious mind tends to make needs manifest faster than wants. Once you have a need in place accountability tends to naturally kick into action. As entrepreneurs we have the hardest level of accountability to answer for because, it is only to ourselves also know as the GUY or GAL in the glass. Many of us are transitioning our mindset and hence the reason we are in the MKMMA class of 2013. The questions is are you doing all you can to make it happen for your DREAMS and can you look yourself in the eye at night and say I love myself (insert name) and I gave it my ALL!
The poem below is that ultimate accountability partner
(Ladies just substitute the word GUY for GAL)
The Guy in the Glass
by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934
When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.
You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.
